Philippine cinema got a major boost Wednesday when the latest Judy Ann-Piolo Pascual starrer, Bakit 'Di Totohanin? raked in almost P8 million on its opening day.

Star Cinema's hit romantic comedy is about a girl boxer (Judy Ann) who falls in love with her childhood friend-turned-boxing coach (Piolo).

It marks Judy Ann's second team-up with blockbuster director Boots Plata and screenplay writer Dindo Perez after the box-office hit action-comedy Isusumbong Kita sa Tatay Ko.

The movie is also the Judy Ann-Piolo tandem's second project under Star Cinema after last year's blockbuster romantic-drama Kahit Isang Saglit.

Rumored to be on and off camera sweethearts, the country's hottest love team is now considered the lucky charm of ABS-CBN's prestigious film outfit.

Their bankable tandem is expected to strike while the iron is hot and help the local movie industry, which had been suffering from low earnings reportedly due to problems such as piracy, onerous taxes and censorship.
